Bento Bot

Packaged Bento Bot

Rolling Robots' Bento Bot is a green toy with reusable packaging - all of its packaging are part of the robot. So keep the packaging intact when unpacking Bento Bot as shown in the next page.

Unpacking

Remove the Ribbon by cutting. Open the cover. Continue unpacking as next page.

Unpacking

Put the cover and ribbon aside and remove the biodegradable zipper bag.


Flip the Bot over to open the battery compartment by removing the screw with the screwdriver.

Separate the two halves of the Bot.


Organize the parts on the assembly area.

Gearbox Assembly Step 1

Find a white Plate A1 and two small nuts as shown.

Insert the two small nuts in the plate as shown.


Use a small piece of tape to hold them in place.

Flip over Plate A1.


Find three gears.

Gearbox Assembly Step 4

Insert the driven gear in the big hole as shown.


The longer axel end should go in the hole.

The remaining gears has two gears on each of the parts.


Place them over the posts starting from the post closer to the driven gear with the small gear down.

After placing the 2nd gear in place, test the assembly by spinning one gear. They should all turn together.

Find another white Plate A2.

Put Plate A2 on the top of the assembly. Check the slanted corner of the two plates are matched and gears are secured in place.

Insert the two of the smallest screws into the deep holes as shown on this page and the next.


Tighten them into the nuts gently with the screwdriver.

Insert and tighten the 2nd screw in place.


Gearbox is completed. Test the gearbox by turning the axel of the gear. Three gears should turn together.

Robot Assembly Step 1

Find Bento Bot Body A with the motor and battery holder attached.


The gearbox is ready to be place into Body A.

Drop the gearbox into Body A as shown.


Find 3 longest screws and 3 black rubber washers. Put a washer on each screw as shown.

Insert the screws into the holes as shown.

Tighten them into the nuts gently with the screwdriver.


Robot Assembly Step 5

Don't tighten the screws too tight.


Check the outer side of robot body A and make sure the screws are not sticking out of the nuts.

Place the motor into the motor slot on the gearbox. Make sure that wires on the motor is locating at the inner side of the robot body as shown.


Next find the red motor bracket and one small screw.

Place the motor bracket on the motor with the opening on the bracket fitting on the end of the motor as shown.


Insert the small screw to hold motor in place.

Tighten the small screw to hold the motor in place.


The bracket should be tight in place. The motor may still have a little room to move.

Axle Assembly Step 1

Find 2 axles as shown.


Axle Assembly Step 2

Place the driven axle into the driven gear on the gearbox as shown.


Push hard until the axle fit tightly in place -- the axle should not fall out if it is flipped upside down. Parent assistance may be required.

Axle Assembly Step 3

Drop the 2nd axle in place as shown. It can be balanced to stay straight.


Find a square nut which was fitted under the battery compartment cover.

Place the square nut in the slot as shown.


Arrange the wires to be neatly dropped in the slot on the compartment wall as shown.


Find Bento Bot Body B.

Axle Assembly Step 5

Place Body B on A with axles, square nut and wires fitting in their places. The two half of the body should be matched evenly. Double check wires and square nut fitting if the two halts are not evenly matched.


Find 3 medium length screws as shown.

Insert screws into the deep round holes.

Tighten 3 screws with the screwdriver.


The Bento Bot Axles are fully assembled.

Wheel Assembly Step 1

Find 2 wheels, 3 small screws, 1 plastic cup washer, and 1 nut.


Position the Bento Bot exactly as shown for the next assembly step.

Wheel Assembly Step 2

Fit one wheel on the axle as shown.


Put a small screw through the cup washer. Screw head should be at the inside of the cup washer. Place the cup washer assembly through any hole on a wheel from the inner side of the wheel as shown.

Wheel Assembly Step 3

Flip the wheel while holding the cup washer assembly in place. Place a nut on the small screw and tighten the screw into the nut.


Fit the wheel on the axle as shown.

Wheel Assembly Step 4

Place the small screw into the center hole on the wheel. Tighten the screws using the screwdriver.

Wheel Assembly Step 5

Flip Bento Bot as shown.


Secure each wheel on Bento Bot with a small screw. Tighten the screw using the screwdriver.

Battery Installation

Insert 2 AAA batteries in the battery holder


Be sure that the negative ( - ) side of the battery is against the spring.

Battery Cover Assembly

Install battery compartment cover with a small screw.

Be sure the hinge is placed in the slots. Tighten the screw using the screwdriver.

Sign your work!

Place the tracking label on the bot and sign your work.

You are officially a Robot Builder now!

Ready to Roll!

Bento Bot is built.

Flip it over and see the on - off switch.

Now let's dress the bot up a bit.

The cover is held on by the 2 remaining screws (same size as the battery door screw)

Put one screw on each side, don't tighten them too much or it won't chomp.
